Week 36: Dad's Guide
Third Trimester • Baby is the size of a a bowling ball
👶 Baby Update
Size: A bowling ball
Baby may 'drop' this week (engage head-down in the pelvis). This is called lightening. Baby is about 6 pounds. Skin is smoothing out as fat fills in. Baby is considered early-term at this point.
💕 What She's Going Through
If baby drops, breathing gets easier but bathroom trips increase (baby is ON the bladder). Lightning crotch. Difficulty walking. She's done — wants this baby OUT.
💪 What You Should Do This Week
- ✓Doctor visits are now weekly — drive her and be present
- ✓Keep the car seat in the car at all times now
- ✓Make sure someone can care for pets/other kids when labor starts
🚫 Don't Say This
“You still have a month!”
To her, it feels like an eternity. Also, babies come early. She's right to feel ready NOW.
🛒 Gear Tip
Double-check everything: car seat installed, hospital bags packed, pediatrician chosen, support team notified.
🧠 Dad Hack
Make a one-page 'Labor Cheat Sheet': hospital number, OB's number, best route to hospital, backup route, who to call, hospital pre-registration number.
